October 10 marks 32 years of Adyar Times serving the neighbourhood — and with each issue, we continue to be amazed by how much news, life, and spirit this small yet vibrant community holds.
This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the vision of our Founder, Mr. S.P. Ambrose, whose dream to unite the community through a neighbourhood newspaper came alive — from the drawing board to the printing press. Despite numerous challenges, he persevered, constantly finding new ways to foster community spirit and bring residents and advertisers closer through memorable initiatives like the renowned Kolu Contest, the thrilling Treasure Hunt, the appointment of Home Guards on the beachfront, and even a FIDE-rated chess tournament.
Over the years, our engagement with the community has evolved with the times — from print to website, Instagram, and our WhatsApp Channel. Through these platforms, we’ve embraced new forms of storytelling — stories of resilience, endurance, inspiration, creativity, purpose, tradition, and change. It is immensely rewarding to see these local stories resonate far and wide, with some reaching over a million views online and helping us build a community of more than 37,000 followers on Instagram.
It warms our hearts when readers say, “My Sunday isn’t complete without reading Adyar Times,” and it excites us when the younger generation scrolls through our feed and thinks, “Wassup, Adyar?!” Our advertisers, too, continue to share their narratives with enthusiasm, experiencing newfound recognition and success — proof that local voices and local businesses thrive stronger together.
Your encouragement drives us to innovate and improve, constantly learning and unlearning to deliver quality content and meaningful advertising solutions.
A special word of thanks to the Greater Chennai Corporation authorities for their prompt response to the civic issues highlighted in our columns and readers’ letters.
To our readers and advertisers — thank you for your trust and support. You inspire us to keep celebrating the stories that define our beloved community — the very essence of what makes Adyar truly special.
Here’s to 32 years of community connection — and many more to come!
