Tamil Nadu CM unveils 100 new bookstores in temples

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, on Apr.4, inaugurated 100 new bookstore locations in temples across the state, aimed at increasing the accessibility of rare spiritual books reprinted by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. The Chief Minister opened the bookstores via video conference from the Secretariat.  

The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department has so far reprinted and released 216 spiritual books in two phases, featuring devotional literature, temple chronicles, biographies of saints, and works on temple art, sculptures, epics, paintings, ancient Tamil palm-leaf manuscripts, and the teachings of Siddhas.

To make these books readily available, 103 temples and the Commissioner’s office have these bookstores. Officials, including Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P.K. Sekar Babu, Chief Secretary N.Muruganantham, and Commissioner of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department P.N. Sridhar, participated in the event.

The stores in Chennai are:

  • Sowmya Damodara Perumal temple, Villivakkam,
  • Somnath Swamy temple, Kolathur;
  • Angallamman temple, Royapuram;
  • Santhana Srinivasa Perumal temple, Mugappair;
  • Angallaman Kasi Vishwanathaswami temple, Choolaimedu;
  • Dandeeswaran temple, Velachery;
  • Pamban Swamy temple, Thiruvanmiyur;
  • Ekambareswarar temple, Aminjikarai;
  • Mundakanni amman temple, Mylapore;
  • Anjaneyar temple, Nanganallur;
  • Subramaniya swamy temple, Kundrathur;
  • Tenupureeswarar temple, Madambakkam;

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
