Indira Nagar residents stranded as rain causes flooding
Share on WhatsappShare on Facebook

A mere half-hour of rain on April 16th triggered flooding on the 2nd Avenue service lane in Indira Nagar, highlighting drainage concerns. Due to the construction by CMRL, the stormwater drains (SWD) on the service lane side have been blocked and further down, it has been demolished, and thus the accumulated water has nowhere to go. While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded only 0.9 mm of rainfall, the impact on the street was significant.

Residents were confined to their homes until at least 6 pm. Some residents reported water stagnation up to 3 feet deep. The residents alerted the CMRL, who immediately pumped out and released the water into the SWD on the opposite side. Residents worry that the short spell of the summer has caused this havoc; what would be their fate during the monsoons? “CMRL construction will continue for a couple of years, and this situation is not going to improve till then. We hope that a pump set is stationed here till the CMRL work completes. Even though it is summer, there can be cloud bursts resulting in flooding, like it happened on Apr.16,” appealed a resident.
