Tamil Nadu simplifies public building licensing through online portal
Share on WhatsappShare on Facebook

The Tamil Nadu government, as per an announcement on June 26, has significantly streamlined key administrative processes, making it easier for citizens and businesses to obtain essential certificates and licenses. These reforms, part of broader efforts to enhance governance and service delivery, utilise the state’s e-Sevai portal (https://www.tnesevai.tn.gov.in/).

  • Simplified Public Building Licensing: The process for obtaining Public Building Licenses, Structural Soundness Certificates, and Superintendent Certificates has been eased through amendments to the Tamil Nadu Public Buildings (Licensing) Act, 1965, and its associated Rules of 1966.

A crucial change mandates that a Structural Soundness Certificate must now be issued by an empanelled engineer approved by the Public Works Department. Applicants can directly fill out forms, upload documents, and receive their licenses online after verification. The license validity will align with the period specified in the Structural Soundness Certificate. Pending applications and renewals can also be processed via the e-Sevai portal.

  • Sanitary Certificates Under ‘SimpleGov’ Initiative: Under the ‘SimpleGov’ initiative, the procedure for obtaining Sanitary Certificates has also been simplified. The previous method of issuing these certificates through urban local bodies has been replaced. Now, the Sanitary Certificates can be obtained through self-attestation via the e-Sevai portal. Public Health Department officials are authorised to verify the authenticity of the information provided in these self-attested certificates.

These comprehensive digital reforms aim to enhance transparency, reduce processing times, and provide greater convenience for property owners and the public across Tamil Nadu.
