The Department of Posts has announced the opening of applications for the ‘Deen Dayal SPARSH Yojana’ (Scholarship for Promotion of Aptitude & Research in Stamps as a Hobby), an initiative aimed at encouraging philately among young students. The scheme, which has been successfully running for eight years, offers a yearly scholarship of ₹6,000 to deserving students from Classes VI to IX.
The scholarship will be awarded based on a two-level selection process. The first stage is a written quiz on Sept.20, which will test students on a range of subjects, including current affairs, history, science, and philately. Students who qualify will then be required to submit a philately project for the final selection.
To be eligible, a student must be enrolled in a recognised school in India and have a good academic record (at least 60% in their last final exam, with a 5% relaxation for SC/ST students). Candidates must also be a member of their school’s Philately Club or have a Philately Deposit Account.
The last date for submitting applications is Aug.25. Interested students can download the application form from www.tamilnadupost.cept.gov.in.
For further queries, students can contact the Philatelic Bureau at 044-28543199 or Philately Promotion Executive, K. Balu Mahendran, at 98414 88667.
