Madras Square: Chennai’s Design-Driven Culinary Brand Expands its Footprint
Share on WhatsappShare on Facebook

What began as a garden cafe in 2013 has evolved into Madras Square, a prominent design-led culinary brand in Neelankarai, founded by entrepreneur Rammohan Kumaraswamy. Inspired by a café and gallery in Colombo, Kumaraswamy established Madras Square in 2012, initially as an art gallery, before launching its first dining space, East Coast at Madras Square.

The brand’s identity is rooted in the seamless blend of aesthetics, elegant design, and fine dining. The cafe quickly gained popularity, leading to its expansion into a full-fledged restaurant by 2018.

Over the past decade, Madras Square has grown rapidly, adding two distinct venues to its portfolio. In 2022, The Beach by Madras Square opened, offering a coastal-themed dining experience. This was followed by Sterling by Madras Square in 2024, an upscale urban bar and restaurant in Nungambakkam.

Kumaraswamy says that the brand’s success lies in its consistent vision. “Every Madras Square restaurant feels unique, but you can always sense the brand’s signature—thoughtful design, warm service, and memorable food,” says a regular patron. For reservations, call 97910 38068.
