On Sept.30, Mirra, an NGO in Velachery that works with individuals who are neurodivergent, celebrated ‘Sangamam’ in style. Mirra invited the Thisram band (with members from Adyar and Besant Nagar), to perform for their students and their families. What a joyful, musical evening it turned out to be!

Thisram is a six-piece band consisting of three female vocalists, a beatboxer, a percussionist and a keyboardist. In a nutshell, Thisram is a contemporary band that draws inspiration from the traditions of Carnatic music and innovates in modern medleys. This group of passionate musicians love to experiment and explore.

The band performed for more than an hour belting out songs ranging from a devotional number on Ganesha to  popular  Tamil film songs. The young band is well known for its own compositions and sang melodies which were based on Carnatic ragas.

Mirra is a Chennai-based NGO with a dream of creating an all inclusive space for children to go beyond disabilities, so that they may both give and receive such beautiful things as ideas, openness, dignity, joy and education. Sangamam at Mirra is an attempt to bring the artistes to centre stage for everyone to enjoy various forms of art.
