Chennai District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade, IAS, has issued a strong warning that Pink Autos driven by men will be seized, following persistent reports of violations across the city.
The Pink Auto service, launched in March 2025, was to ensure safe and secure travel for women and children, supported by a women’s helpline and GPS tracking.
However, recent field inspections by the Social Welfare Department confirmed that some Pink Autos are being operated by men, contrary to the specific mandate under the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle Rules that these vehicles must be driven only by women.
Despite repeated warnings about the rules and the potential for action via the RTO, the violations have continued. The District Collector has now escalated enforcement, warning that any Pink Auto driven by a man will be immediately confiscated.
