The Anna Gem School, Kotturpuram inaugurated five colour bins for segregating their waste at school, on Aug.26. The bins were obtained in collaboration with the Kotturpuram Nawab Garden Association and under the guidance of Ward 170 Councillor K.R.Kathirmurugan.
The Councillor stated that those who bring more plastic from their home and collect at school will be rewarded bi-monthly. “‘Clean Kotturpuram; Clean India’ is the logo,” said the Councillor at the event.
The five bins are:
- Green: Wet organic waste;
- Yellow: plastic of grade 1, 2, 4 and 5;
- Blue: for milk and curd packets (cleaned);
- Red: dangerous items, polythene bags, wrappers, plastic of grade 3, 6 and 7;
- Black: Coconut shells.
Also present were: Visalakshi Ammal and Priya Ravi on behalf of the Association, Dr.S.Kanmani – Director of Center for Environmental Studies (Anna University CEG Campus), I.K.Lenin Tamilgovan – Program Director of Anna Science Centre, Girija Devi Durai – Anna Gem Science Park Matriculation School, Principal and Teachers, Bhim Rao (Urbaser Sumeet Zonal Manager) Ratnam (Urbaser Sumeet Assistant Zonal Manager) and Balaji (Urbaser Sumeet Unit Officer).
