The Cancer Institute (WIA) paid tribute to Dr. V. Shanta, a pioneering figure in cancer care, during a Memorial Oration on Mar.15. Dr. Shanta was celebrated for her clinical expertise, compassion, and lifelong dedication to patients, leaving behind an inspiring legacy in oncology.

The program featured speeches by Dr. M. K. Srinivasan (Former Director, Public Health Centre) and N.L. Colleagues, including Dr. Hemanth Raj (Vice Chairman), Dr. Kalpana Balakrishnan (CEO and Director), and Dr. Arvind Krishnamoorthy (Professor and Head of Department, Surgical Oncology), shared personal reflections on Dr. Shanta’s influence on their careers.

Earlier that day, an academic wing was jointly inaugurated by Prashanth Vasu (Managing Director, Coordination & Review – The Sanmar group) and S.Seetharaman (Executive Chairman, Super Auto Forge) to further Dr. V. Shanta’s vision of advancing education in cancer care. The ceremony was attended by donors, medical professionals, former colleagues, patients, caregivers, and well-wishers, all gathered to honour Dr. Shanta’s life and work, particularly her commitment to providing quality care to the underprivileged.
