Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, on May 29, laid the foundation stone for the Kalaignar International Convention Centre, a world-class facility to be built at an estimated cost of ₹525 crores on 37.99 acres of land on East Coast Road in Muttukadu. The ceremony took place at the Secretariat.
The Centre will be constructed on a total area of 5,12,800 square feet and will include a 91,024 sq ft exhibition hall which can accommodate 10,000 people, a 50,633 sq ft convention hall for 5,000 people, and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 1,500 people, among various other facilities.
The state-of-the-art centre will be fully air-conditioned and equipped with power generators, elevators, parking facilities for 1,638 cars and 1,700 two-wheelers, and other amenities.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Minister for Public Works E.V. Velu, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary for Public Works Department Mangat Ram Sharma, IAS, Principal Chief Engineer for Public Works Department S. Manivannan, and other senior government officials.
