In celebration of World Water Day, Exnora International Foundation organised a Lake Visit Programme to educate the public about Chennai’s lakes and their significance, on Mar.22. The initiative aimed to spread awareness about water conservation and the restoration of local water bodies.
The journey began at Thalambur Lake, opposite the Thalambur Panchayat office, followed by visits to two lakes on Model School Road, and concluded at Perungudi TANSIDCO Park, where Exnora had successfully transformed a former dump yard into an eco-park with two ponds.
Over 100 students and 50 members of the public participated in the event, making it a grand success. Waterbody expert Dr. Janagarajan spoke about the importance of protecting water bodies, while Dr. Muthukumar highlighted the role of tree plantation in ensuring ample rainfall. Sethukumar, Deputy Secretary, inaugurated the event, with Subramani and Karpagam from Exnora coordinating the program.
The Department of Environment and Climate Change distributed caps to all participants, while Exnora provided breakfast. Thalambur Panchayat President Munusamy also contributed by serving tea and biscuits in the morning.
