On July 12, the foundation stone ceremony was held in Adyar for establishing the ‘Muthalvar Padaippagam’ at the Gandhi Nagar and the Indira Nagar libraries. Chief Minister had announced the modernisation of the libraries in May.
While the Gandhi Nagar library will be upgraded at the cost of Rs 24.69 Cr, the Indira Nagar library will be upgraded at the cost of Rs 4.26 Cr. Other libraries to be modernised include Ashok Nagar (Rs 12.74 Cr), Mahakavi Bharathiyar Nagar (Rs 7.18 Cr), Raja Annamalaipuram (Rs 3.49 Cr), Bharathidasan Road in Alwarpet (Rs 12.55 Cr) and Anna Nagar (Rs 15.50 Cr). The initiative is being implemented by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).
Present at the ceremony were Velachery MLA J.M.H. Aasan Maulana and CMDA Member Secretary and Principal Secretary G. Prakash, IAS, who officially launched the commencement of the construction work, among other officials.
