Free bus travel tokens for Chennai senior citizens from June 21

Chennai’s Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), on June 23, announced the distribution of free bus travel tokens and identity card renewals / new applications for senior citizens. This initiative provides 10 free bus travel tokens per month for a period of six months, valid from July 2025 to December 2025.

The distribution and application process will run from June 21, 2025, to July 31, 2025, operating daily from 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM at 40 designated centres across the city. Services will also be available during regular office hours at respective depot offices.

Documents Required:

For New Applications (Free Travel Tokens & Identity Cards):

  • Proof of Residence: Family Ration Card
  • Age Proof: Aadhaar Card, Driving License, Educational Certificate, Voter ID Card, etc.
  • Photographs: 2 colour passport-sized photographs

For Renewals (Free Travel Tokens & Identity Cards):

  • Identity Card: Your existing MTC senior citizen identity card
  • Photograph: 1 current passport-sized photograph
