IIT Madras retains the top honours in Indian higher education. The premier technical institute has, once again, swept the top honours in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Dr.Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Government of India, announced the results of eight editions of NIRF Results on June 5, in New Delhi and gave away the prizes.
In a feat without precedence, IIT Madras held on to its No. 1 ranking in the ‘Overall’ category for the Fifth consecutive year and in ‘Engineering’ category for the Eight consecutive year.
In the ‘Research Institutions’ category, IIT Madras was ranked #2, retaining last year’s position. IIT Madras was ranked #2 in the ‘Innovations’ category (previously known as Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements).

Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said, “All this has been made possible by the tireless efforts of the outstanding quality of faculty and students of the institute, staff who have contributed significantly to the institute’s continuous progress, and unwavering support from our alumni across the world. I also thank the Ministry of Education, Government of India and the Tamil Nadu State Government who have reposed their trust in us.
