The wall inside the Kalakshetra Colony playground on 31, Rukmini Road was recently painted by the colony children assisted by colony in-house artists.
The project was coordinated by artist and art educator Kamla Ravikumar, along with her artist friends and colony residents Upasna, Sathya Sridhar and Kala Ganapathy.
Kamla used the concept of ‘Tree of Life’ to sensitise the children to appreciate nature. A lot of colony children showed keen interest in participating. They started painting the wall on June 11 and completed on July 17, working only on days when children were free to paint.
The wall located inside the playground is approximately 50′ wide x 9′ high. They needed their parents to help them reach the upper portions of the wall. As the painting work progressed a lot of parents of the children and senior citizens joined in to help too.
Adyar Times had written about the wall painting done in 2003. After which it was broken down when the fisheries department constructed a building. They rebuilt the wall recently.
One of the participants was Rasika who had painted the wall in 2003. She came back after 20 years to paint the new wall!!
The children feel very proud of their wall and show it to their friends and relatives.
