Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial Trust, organised the 124th birthday celebrations of the popular Tamil writer, Kalki, on Sept.9, jointly with Hamsadhwani Sabha at Indira Nagar Youth Hostel. Writer and Editor of Amudhasurabi magazine, Thiruppur Krishnan, presided over the function and gave away the Kalki awards for 2023 to veena artist Ramana Balachandran and mridangam artist Vijay B.Natesan.

S.Chandra Mouli, Trustee of Kalki Memorial Trust in his welcome address, introduced the awardees to the audience and the citations were read out by Lakshmi Natarajan, Trustee. Seetha Ravi, Managing Trustee, who compered the programme, shared many interesting quotes of writer Kalki. R.Sundar of Hamsadhwani felicitated the awardees. The function was followed by a music concert by the awardees.

Besides giving away Kalki awards, to encourage young musicians, Kalki Krishnamurthy Memorial Trust gives scholarships to deserving but economically weak school and college students every year. Scholarships to the tune of Rs.15 lakhs were distributed during the year 2023-24 by the Trust.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
