Kshetrayya Padams is an English transliteration and translation of Prof. Veturi Anandamurthy’s ‘Kshetrajnulu’ (1991), which comprises 35 Kshetrayya padams with elaborate commentary. Kshetrayya, a famous composer and poet of the 17th century wrote many padams in Telugu on Lord Muvvagopala (Krishna).

Authored by Dr. Kanakam Devaguptapu, the English version of the book includes padam lyrics in English, Telugu and Sanskrit along with detailed meanings. Notations are set by eminent and renowned musicians and scholars for all the padams.

Dr. Kanakam shares her views about the book thus, “In the course of translating this prodigious work and extrapolating deep and insightful ideas from the commentaries, I could get a clearer perspective of the notions, themes and characters in the padams and cognise the multi-hued aspect of ‘Adhyatmika sringara’ (spiritual passion) that Kshetrayya portrayed.”

Dr. Kanakam retired as Head of the Department of English (Qatar Campus of NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands). She has been a veena practitioner for over 5 decades; and a music teacher and researcher for over 20 years.

The book is published by Suryakala Foundation for Performing Arts, Flat 5, New 12, 16th Cross Street, Besant Nagar and costs Rs.2000 + Rs.200 (delivery charges). Copies can be obtained in person at the Foundation or ordered online by filling this form https://forms.gle/9CYw1jdmvW592T5A7.
