Minister reviews ECR widening project

Minister for Public Works, Highways, and Minor Ports, E.V. Velu, on May 22, inspected the ongoing works for widening the East Coast Road (ECR) into a six-lane highway and the road expansion efforts for the chariot procession path at the Marundeeswarar Temple in Thiruvanmiyur.

Reviewing the progress of projects undertaken by the State Highways Department on the ECR, the minister stated, “To ensure swift travel on the ECR, works are underway to widen the road into a six-lane highway for a length of 10.5 km from Thiruvanmiyur to Akkarai. Similarly, a high-level elevated corridor will also be constructed for a distance of 14 km from Thiruvanmiyur to Uthandi.”

Earlier, the Minister also inspected the chariot procession route of the Marundeeswarar Temple, which falls under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, and reviewed the proposed road expansion works there. Further, he inspected the ongoing construction of a 2 m-wide stormwater drain along the ECR and issued directives to expedite all ongoing works on the ECR.
