Celebrating the Scientist

“I hear and I forget; I see and I remember; I do and I understand,” – with this in mind, the students of Vidya Ratna P.T.S. School, Sastri Nagar, conducted an exhibition recently.

The students presented working and display models of different concepts of their studies, making the teaching-learning process effective. It was inaugurated by Dr.Elangovan, a professor from Periyar University and an environmentalist by passion. J.Ramesh – Managing Director of Bovonto and G.Thangaraj – coordinator of National Green Corps (NGC) were the chief guests who judged the best exhibit.

The Bio-Enzyme theme of chemistry dept. caught everyone’s attention. The array of products like soaps, face wash, body wash, room spray, and biofuel, prepared by the students using bio enzymes and essential oils was the star attraction. The algae world of future foods, medicines and the preparation of power using algae was a wonder to watch. The bio plastic bag was the star of the show too.

The successful landing of the Chandrayaan was not spared. The take off and the landing of the lander were illustrated with sound effects. The spectators could operate the rover by scanning the QR code which excited the onlookers. The innumerable models exhibited by other classes vied with each other for the young scientist award.

What better way to celebrate the birth of the missile man of India Dr. Abdul Kalam!

Rotary Club of Chennai Thiruvanmiyur (RCCT), along with the District Public Image Team and Mangayarkarasi Mandram planted 100 flower plants and tree saplings to commemorate former President A.P.J.Abdul Kalam’s birth anniversary, at Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital, Adyar. District Governor A.K.S.Ravi Raman was the chief guest. “Our motto is: If you want free Oxygen in future, you should plant a tree! Just living is not enough, one must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower,” said a statement from RCCT.
