Starting Aug.15, 2025, frequent private car, van, and jeep travellers on National Highways will see significant savings with the implementation of a new Annual Pass facility. For a one-time payment of ₹3,000, eligible vehicles can pass through designated Fee Plazas for one year or 200 trips (whichever comes earlier), eliminating per-trip user charges. This initiative follows an amendment to the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008, notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on June 17, 2025.

The new policy promises immense benefits for regular commuters. For example, a monthly Chennai-Bangalore round trip, which involves 144 annual fee plaza crossings and currently costs ₹10,680, will now be covered by the ₹3,000 Annual Pass, leading to a saving of ₹7,680 and allowing for an additional 56 trips. Similarly, travellers on the Chennai-Trichy sector could save ₹8,880 on 168 annual crossings. Higher travel frequency will translate to greater savings.

The Annual Pass can be activated through the Rajmarg Yatra mobile application or the NHAI Website. It can be linked to an existing FASTag, provided it meets eligibility criteria such as being properly affixed and linked to a valid, non-blacklisted Vehicle Registration Number. The pass is strictly for private non-commercial vehicles, as verified by the VAHAN database; any commercial use will result in immediate deactivation.
