Toll prices on all major motorways were hiked by 5% by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on June 3. The revised toll rates, which were initially scheduled to take effect on April 1, were deferred due to the Lok Sabha elections.
According to the National Highways Fee Rules of 2008, India’s massive highway network, which includes approximately 855 toll plazas, would face annual toll hikes. The money collected will be spent on normal maintenance of these highways, the building of new motorways, and the extent of new technologies to facilitate better traffic flow.
