It was the early 50s and it was Angamuthu of Mylapore who took interest and entered the business of hairdressing. It was a field at that time with no organised shops as most of the people either preferred to have it in the house or on a common place like the temple tank.
Amidst this, Angamuthu took a bold step and opened the shop and was successful for many years. The said place was next to the old Sathya Studio. Old timers may be aware of this shop of those days and the care they all took to treat their customers. Some time later when Angamuthu could not continue the trade due to ageing, he gave the whole responsibility to his son-in-law Kasi.
Kasi, in his mid-life, took the job and did it with great care and concern for many more years and the reputation the shop scored was even higher. He expanded the shop a bit and modernised too. But he never thought that the place would have to be vacated for the railway project a little later. And the day came, and it was shut.
But he wanted the legacy to continue and managed to open a shop in Adyar. It is now highly successful catering to the needs of today.
Thanigai who is now incharge after the demise of his father Kasi, felt that he has to pay back a bit to the society. Then came the idea of hair dressing for the poor corporation school students for free. Since that day he had made it a practice to do the haircut for the Chennai Corporation school students for Free.
A proper manner of expressing gratitude by doing such a service. Service and support from all walks of life is a must to society and Thanigai does it wonderfully. Kudos to his kindness! Visit Thanigai at Dhanush Hair Dressers at 9/43, Kamaraj Avenue 2nd Street, Adyar. Ph: 96770 11117.
