The Federation of Senior Citizens of TamilNadu (FOSCATAN), invites senior citizens forum in the neighbourhood to be associated with them to further the cause of the issues faced by senior citizens.
The forum currently comprises 6 senior citizens associations in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. Launched in 2008, under the aegis of Dr.V.Babulal, the then President of Probus Club of Chennai, the association was formed to act as a coordinating body of all senior citizens organisations (big and small), which were functioning within the state with the aim of promoting the welfare of the senior citizens. “Each one of them had diverse jurisdictional areas of their own and were functioning within those areas. None of them had membership strength big enough to claim that they represented the entire lot of senior citizens in the state. Hence the reason for forming this Federation as a coordinating body,” said a statement from the Federation adding that it would act as the chief spokesperson of the member organisation and voice their views and concerns on matters of government policies, programmes and legislation affecting health, housing, finance, social security, personal safety and the well being of senior citizens.
The association had been dormant since 2019, due to COVID pandemic and various incapacities and loss of members. Currently, S.Meenakshi Sundaram is the Secretary of the Group. Citizens above the age of 60 could form small groups and avail the help of FOSCATAN to help each other. Contact the Secretary at 93805 20878.
