More than 350 children from various government and rural schools, and special homes and study centres participated in the 15th yearly educational festival – Thiramai Thiruvizha of Dream India E&C Trust, held on Jan.21 at SV Home, Poonamallee.
The participating institutes were: CHS Adyar, GHSS Alapakkam, ADWHS Virugambakkam, GHS Kaatumalayanur, Pums Aranji, GHS Mazhaiyur, GHS Vaiyavoor, GHS Collector’s colony, GHS AKT, GHS Perianatham, and homes – Vasantham, SV Home, Udhavum Nanbargal and Kannagi Nagar study centre.
The daylong event saw the children compete in various events like elocution, essay, quiz, Thirukkural, drawing and cultural events and display their talent. The day started with children being enthralled into the world of science through fun, by V.Arivarasan from Parikshan Trust. This was followed by a session on First Aid by Mr Neelakandan from NGO Alert. Mr Rajasekar, yoga trainer, explained the importance of Yoga. Ms Barathi, an IT professional and stand-up comedian, made children laugh with her short show on the theme of education.
L.C.Santhana Moorthy, social worker and film director, was the chief guest of the event. In his address, he spoke about the importance of spreading love and the power of education. Guest of honour, Archana Stalin, Founder of My Harvest, addressed the children on the importance of education and self-belief.Along with all the teachers, they gave away prizes to all the children, including Dream India’s Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Awards for Inspiring Teachers and Inspiring Students. The day ended with a wonderful display of villu pattu and dance by the children. The Dream India team thanked Mr Venkat, HMs, all teachers, children of SV Home, volunteers and children of all schools and homes for making the day a very special one.
