Surana High Tech International School celebrated World Pulses Day to emphasise the importance of pulses in promoting healthy diets and sustainable agriculture. Pulses, including beans, lentils, and chickpeas, are nutritious, versatile, and environmentally friendly.
The guest speaker Aarthi Panjabi, a nutritionist, emphasised the health benefits of pulses, especially for growing children, stressing its importance in a balanced diet. She spoke about creative ways to incorporate them into meals, from soups, salads and dals to simple and humble yet nutritious khichdi. Her Khichdi recipe was a great hit with everyone. For an immersive experience, the school also encouraged the students to bring snacks with pulses as the main ingredient.
Students embraced their roles as inquisitive learners and participated in the session asking meaningful questions. They embodied their open-minded learner profile when they came forward to savour the pulse platter and relished the dishes. The Kindergarten students had fun uncovering the hidden pulses in playdough, sorting and naming them. This hands-on task not only deepened their understanding of the different forms, colours and textures of pulses but also fostered collaboration as they worked in groups to dig out the hidden edible gems of our diet.
