Based on past experience, 24 high-risk locations in Chennai have been identified for special monitoring. Vehicles and personnel from neighboring districts will be stationed at these points as a precautionary measure, specifically from 5 pm on Oct.18 to 8 am on Oct.22.

To guarantee an adequate water supply for emergencies, Chennai Metro Water has been requested to keep 50 water tankers ready.

Preventive Measures and Safety Compliance

As part of preventive efforts, the department conducted awareness programs at 2,705 locations, including schools, colleges, and public gathering places, urging safe firework handling.

Regarding the sale of fireworks:

  • A total of 9,207 No Objection Certificates (NOCs) have been issued for shops across Tamil Nadu.
  • In Chennai alone, 1,088 NOCs were issued for temporary and cluster shops.
  • A total of 770 applications were rejected across the state for failure to comply with mandatory safety norms.

The Department urges the public to strictly follow all fire safety guidelines, handle fireworks responsibly, and cooperate fully with authorities for a safe celebration.
