On Sept.23, the TREE Foundation held a workshop in Chengalpattu to address the recent increase in dead sea turtles washing ashore. Supported by the Eicher Group Foundation, the event aimed to enhance marine conservation efforts ahead of the 2026 turtle nesting season.
The workshop, led by Dr Supraja Dharini, founder of the TREE Foundation, trained 135 participants from local fishing communities, the Sea Turtle Protection Force (STPF), and various government agencies, including the Forest, Fisheries, Marine Police, and Indian Coast Guard. The training focused on identifying, documenting, and safely releasing entangled marine animals like turtles, dolphins, and whales.
A key part of the workshop was a practical, on-boat demonstration that enhanced participants’ skills in observing and recording marine life. The successful event fostered a stronger network and a shared sense of responsibility for protecting the marine ecosystem.
