Sakambari Women’s group conducted Navarathri celebrations on Oct.17, by placing kolu dolls, doing Suhasini pooja and chanting Lalitha Sahasranamam.

Sri Sankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Thiruvamiyur, is celebrating Navarathri from Oct.15. The main motto of the kolu this year is ‘Gain Guru’s Grace’. The whole theme is categorised into three: Mythological Gurus, Contemporary gurus and Modern Gurus. Right from Vyasa to Lord Krishna, Thiruvalluvar to Swami Vivekananda, school teachers to space scientists, the guru parampara was excellently explained and presented by the staff and students of the school. Students and parents are invited to visit the kolu.

Members of Indira Nagar Women’s Association celebrated Navaratri on Oct.17, by keeping a kolu, chanting Lalitha Sahastranamam and singing bhajans. Members also performed an impromptu garba on the occasion. Around 50 members participated in the event.

The nine-day fest of Navaratri began on Oct.15. A colourful  Kolu at the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple, Gandhi Nagar draws huge crowds, for its divine display of the deities.

Sharodiya Durga Utsav and Golu celebrations at OMR

Dakshin Chennai Prabasi Cultural Association (DCPCA) is conducting its 10th Year Sharodiya Durga Utsav and Golu celebration from Oct.20 to 24 at Ilara Resort Lawns, Navalur, OMR. The celebration, open to all, will include pujas, competitions, food stalls, games, Dandiya night and other entertainment activities.

Indian Idol fame Senjuti Das will perform on Oct.20 at 8.30 pm, and Zee Bangla SaReGaMaPa fame and lead vocalist Rahul Sinha will be coming to DCPCA, OMR to celebrate Durga Puja on Oct.22 at 8.15 pm.

  • Oct.24 (Vijayadashami): 9 am – Puja; 9.30 – Bhog; 9.50 am – Ghot Bisorjon/ Sindur Khela; 9.50 am – Shanti Jol.

  • Oct.21: 10 am – Chanting of Slokas (for Golu); 12 pm – Art Workshop for Kids; 1 pm – Alpona and Rangoli; 7 pm – Drama by Kids; 7.30 pm – A musical journey through rural India; 9 pm – Folk songs by Udaan;
  • Oct.22: 11 am – Drawing competition; 12 pm – Couple games; 7 pm – Ye sham mastani/ recitation, songs, drama and dance; 7.30 pm – Drama – Monihaar ; 8.15 pm – External artist – Rahul Sinha;
  • Oct.23: 11 am – Treasure Hunt; 12 noon – Conch/Shankha playing competition; 7 pm – Kuchh Nagme… Naye Purane / Evergreen Bollywood – Retro to Modern era; 8.30 pm – Dandiya Night.

Raj Bhavan invites public For ‘Navaratri Kolu’

Raj Bhavan, Tamil Nadu, is celebrating the ‘Navaratri Kolu – 2023’ from Oct.15 to 24, which will be inaugurated by the Governor of Tamil Nadu, R.N. Ravi.

The celebrations, from 4 pm to 6 pm, will also include cultural events. Interested persons and education institutions may send their requests with the details, including name, age, gender, address, contact number, photo identity proof, and proposed date of visit, to the email address [email protected].

Only 150 visitors per day will be permitted on first come, first view. A confirmation email with the allotted time and other details will be sent to the applicants, which will be proof of acceptance of the request. Visitors must report at Gate No. 2 of Raj Bhavan, at least 30 minutes prior to the allotted time with proof of confirmation mail and original photo identity proof (uploaded in the email while applying).

Foreign nationals may also be part of the celebrations. Their original passport only will be considered as the identification proof. Mobile phones and cameras will not be permitted inside the Raj Bhavan campus. For administrative and security reasons, Raj Bhavan, Tamil Nadu, reserves the right to reject the request to visit the campus.


Navarathri special programme by Babaji Vidhyashram 

Babaji Vidhyashram is conducting a special Navarathri Programme till Oct.23. This nine day cultural event to celebrate is being held at the Sri Subramanya Swami Temple premises, from 5.30 pm onwards. Programme Schedule:

  • Oct.15: 5 pm – Inauguration and invocation songs by Amit Sir, Vasudev and Manasa (Babaji Vidhyashram School students); 5.30 pm – Bharatanatyam by Kayal Academy students (Babaji Vidhyashram School students and Academy); 6.30 pm – Thirupugazh and devotional Songs by Smt. Girija and group;
  • Oct.16: 5.30 pm – Programme by Babaji Vidhyashram students; 6.30 pm – Bhajan by the students of Archana;
  • Oct.17: 5.30 pm – Programme by Babaji Vidhyashram students; 6.30 pm – Vocal by Srilatha Balaji and party followed by Bharatanatyam performance;
  • Oct.18: 6.30 pm – Programme by Babaji Vidhyashram students; 6.30 pm- Bharatanatyam by the students of Meenakshi;
  • Oct.19: 5.30 pm – Programme by Babaji Vidhyashram students; 6.30 pm – Bhajan by Smt. Uma and students;
  • Oct.20: 5.30 pm – Kuthuvilakku Pooja; 
  • Oct.21: 5.30 pm – Programme by Babaji Vidhyashram students; 6.30 pm – Bharatanatyam by the students of Ranjana;
  • Oct.22: 5.30 pm – Instrumental by the students of Kayal Academy; 6.30 pm – Bharatanatyam by the students of Ragi;

Oct.23: 5.30 pm – Programme by teachers and students of Babaji Vidhyashram; 6.30 pm – Bharatanatyam and Mohini Attam by the students of Samna Sankar.
