Competitions & Quizzes

  • ROTA Chess 2025
    Rotary International District 3234 and 8×8 Chess Club, West Mambalam, will host the annual Rotary Chess Tournament on Sept.14 at Queen Mary’s College Auditorium, Mylapore. Over 450 players (ages 8–21) will compete under the Swiss system and latest FIDE rules. Six age categories, separate pairings for boys and girls. Ten prizes per category; all participants get certificates.

  • Eureka 2025 – Inter-School Science Quiz
    As part of CSIR’s 84th Foundation Day, CSIR-SERC and CSIR Madras Complex will conduct Eureka 2025 on Sept.16. Open to Classes 10–12. One team (3 members) per school. Top three teams win shields and cash prizes; all participants receive certificates.

  • Onam Celebrations – Thiruvanmiyur Kerala Samajam
    The Samajam will celebrate Onam 2025 on Sept.14 at the TEACH Auditorium, CSIR Road, Taramani.
    Chief guest: cine star Ashokan. Guests of honour: Nandagovind and Dr. M.P. Farook.

  • Humour Club at Besant Nagar
    The Besant Nagar Humour Club and Sea View Apartments (HB) Owners’ Welfare Association invite all for a humorous storytelling session on Sept.7, 4 pm at Association Hall, First Seaward Road, Thiruvanmiyur.   • Kids Walkathon
    Little Popsicles Pre-School will host a Kids Walkathon on Sept.20, 7 am at Thiruvanmiyur Beach. Open to ages 3–10. Live music, refreshments, medals, and certificates for all participants. Supported by Ashok Leyland, Bamboo Sportan, and Cloudnine.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
