Padma Rajan, a longtime resident of Adyar was conferred the PRTF Role Model Award in association with Ladies Special, a Tamil monthly magazine, at a function to celebrate the 11th Anniversary of Prabha Rajan Talent Foundation (PRTF). The 83-year-old was chosen for the award for proving that age is no barrier to pursuing one’s passion.

After her husband passed away, 25 years ago, she reinvented herself as an independent thinker and spiritual seeker. She learnt the Narayaneeyam, Srimad Bhagavatham, the Bhagavadgita, and many such scriptures from different people, and has subsequently been teaching them to many others in her unique style. Her Navaratri golu themes are unique. Friends and family look forward to the elaborate and intricate arrangements and listen to her narrations.

The award was presented to Padma Rajan by the chief guest, Dr.S.Murugusundaram, an accomplished writer in Tamil and a well-known skin specialist. He also released the 200th book of the Kuvikam Padhippakam containing the prize-winning short stories selected from the entries received for the short story competition conducted by Kuvikam. In the last 11 years, PRTF has held essays, short stories, novella contests, and many other ideas in association with Kalaimagal, Mangayar Malar, Ladies Special, and Amudhasurabhi magazines. Has supported 15 budding female writers in Tamil by co-sponsoring the printing of their books mainly published by Manimekalai Prasuram. PRTF also contributes towards women-centric projects of the Rotary Club of Madras South and the Inner Wheel Club of Madras South. Many other projects to support deserving girl students are also conducted regularly. The main objective of PRTF is to bring to limelight talented females- age no bar.
