The Rotary Club of Chennai Port City donated Rs 2 lakh to the Thalassemia Welfare Association, VHS, Taramani, at an event held at Kamarajar Arangam on Mar.16. The cheque was handed over to Dr.V.Mythili, VHS, by the chief guest, Rtn. N.S.Saravanan – District Governor (RI District 3234), along with past governor Rtn. J.Sridhar, Governor-elect Rtn. Vinod Saraogi, and Rtn. Suresh Jain.
The evening featured a ‘Mega Isai Kondattam’ by the Ganesh Kirupa orchestra, with music directors Sabesh, Murali, and Srikanth Deva, as well as singers Krishnaraj and Vivek Sarathy, as guests of honour. They captivated the packed audience with soulful performances.
Organised as a fundraiser, the Mega Isai Kondattam aimed to support crucial humanitarian initiatives, including providing treatment for children affected by Thalassemia, improving education and sanitation facilities in government schools, and equipping rural hospitals with essential medical equipment.
Chennai’s music lovers were in for a treat as the event showcased stellar performances by 35 celebrated playback singers, including Ananthu and Super Singer winners Nikhil Mathew, Alka Ajith, Saicharan, Hritik, and Mookkuthi Murugan, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Rtn. C. Muthusamy, Chartered President, Rotary Club of Chennai Port City, highlighted the club’s long-standing commitment to supporting Thalassemia patients since its inception 12 years ago. He emphasised the impact of the club’s efforts and urged the public to contribute through blood donation, financial aid for surgeries, and post-surgical care to help those affected.
