The Ministry of Communications has announced the launch of ‘Gyan Post,’ a new service by India Post aimed at making the delivery of educational, social, cultural, and religious books more affordable across the country. The service is set to commence on May 1, 2025, and will be available through all departmental post offices nationwide.
Announcing the initiative, Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Regions, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, emphasized the government’s commitment to education. The service features a pricing structure designed to encourage wider accessibility, with rates starting at just ₹20 for packets weighing up to 300 grams. For heavier packages, up to 5 kilograms, the maximum charge will be ₹100.
To qualify for ‘Gyan Post’, materials must be non-commercial and educational in nature. Publications intended for business or containing advertisements, except for incidental announcements or book lists, are excluded. Each item must clearly display the name of the printer or publisher as per prescribed guidelines.
This initiative reflects India Post’s ongoing efforts to bridge educational gaps by making learning resources more accessible, particularly in remote and underserved regions.
