Super-senior meet at Thiruvanmiyur

By P.V.Ranganathan

It has been 18 years since the Super Senior Citizens (SSC) first started meeting near the gate (of Prime Terrace, Thiruvanmiyur). Over the years, our meeting spot has changed and evolved, but our sense of community and camaraderie has remained strong. Despite the challenges of age and the loss of some of our beloved members, we continue to meet regularly, cherishing the time we have together.

One particular act of kindness from Shri Padmanabhan stands out in my mind. When our usual meeting spot was converted into a visitor’s car park, he generously offered part of his closed car park near the gate for us to continue our gatherings. His selflessness and thoughtfulness truly embodies the spirit of our group.

As a community, we also take part in various events and activities. It fills us with pride to see one of our own hoist the National Flag during Independence Day and to participate in cultural and sports events. The respect and regard shown to us by the younger members of the community is heartwarming and makes us feel valued.

Today, we had a change of scenery and gathered on the terrace, enjoying refreshments sponsored by one of our super senior citizens. It was a delightful change of place and a reminder of the warmth and generosity that defines our group.

As we continue to navigate the challenges that come with ageing, it is comforting to know that we have each other for support and companionship. Our gatherings may have evolved over the years, but the bond we share as Super Senior Citizens remains unwavering.

We are grateful for the love and support we receive from the community, and we look forward to many more years of friendship and camaraderie. Thank you for being a part of our journey.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
