Nandalala Seva Samithi Trust honoured three women with the ‘Nandadeepam Award’, as a part of the Women’s Day celebration on Mar.10. The award was given by Dr Republica Shridhar, Founder and Managing Trustee of RMD Pain and Palliative Care Trust. Among the awardees was Kottivakkam resident Dr Gayathri Krishnaveni Lakshmanan, who was given the title of Kalaisevai Kalanjiam. 

Gayathri is the daughter and disciple of Krishnaveni of Kalakshetra. She runs her Krishnadhwani School of Natya where she imparts Bharatanatyam training to many underprivileged children. Gayathri has been a part of many voluntary services and NGOs, and has been actively involved through her art. This award has been conferred for her services towards various social causes. Gayathri recently donated around Rs.3 lakh through her students’ dance program ‘Panchamukhi’ to Vishranthi Home for Destitute Women Chennai. She can be contacted at 88701 10275.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
