Chief Minister M K Stalin launches Tamil Puthalvans; male students to get a stipend for college education

On Aug.9, Chief Minister MK Stalin introduced the Tamil Puthalvan scheme, aimed at providing Rs 1,000 per month to male students of government schools or studying in Tamil Medium in government-aided schools in TamilNadu, who wish to pursue higher education.

This initiative will benefit 3.28 lakh students who complete their 12th standard in Tamil medium and continue their studies in college. A budget of Rs 360 crore has been allocated for this program. Funds will be directly deposited into students’ bank accounts each month to assist them.

The Tamil Puthalvan scheme is modelled after the ‘Pudhumai Penn scheme,’ launched on September 5, 2022 that provides Rs 1,000 per month to female students who studied 6 to 12 standard in Govt.schools or Tamil Medium in Govt. aided schools.
