The neighbourhood celebrated Independence Day with much enthusiasm. Here are glimpses from our neighbourhood…
As part of the Independence Day celebrations, On Aug.19, the Adyar Gandhi Nagar library, on behalf of the Reader’s Circle, conducted a membership drive for school girls.
An essay writing competition was also held at the library and the students were awarded. R.Priya and A.R.Bharti – Classical Acupuncturists who also participated in the program gave cash prizes to 100 members amounting to Rs.3000.
Satish Kumar, who gave the welcome address, joined as the patron of the library. K.Ezhumalai of the Reader’s Circle, Nandakumar – Editor of the magazine Udavi Karam and two teachers of Rani Mary Girls’ High School also participated. Stationery was distributed to the 25 school girls who participated in the function at the library.
Kendriya Vidyalaya IIT Chennai commemorated the 78th Independence Day with great pride and enthusiasm. Principal R.N.Sendhil Kumar motivated the students to uphold their hard-earned freedom and reiterated that they are the torchbearers of the rich values, traditions and cultural heritage of the glorious nation.
As per the tradition of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, teachers who are retiring from the Vidyalaya this year – G.Suganthi, R.Padmavathi (Headmistress) and P.Jegannath were the chief guests and hoisted the National Flag.
The cultural programme showcased the vibrant cultural diversity of our country. Madhav Mohan of class 11 and Pranjal of class 5 gave speeches; Primary class students presented a dance ‘Vande Matharam’ and a group song ‘Mere Watan se Achha’. Niharika of class 8 portrayed ‘Unity in Diversity’ through her fusion dance. The class magazines of Std I to XII were released by the chief guests.
G.Suganthi, insisted the students focus on sustainable development and reducing carbon footprint as a mark of respect to the nation; R.Padmavathi encouraged the students to imbibe qualities like bravery, empathy, adaptability and selflessness; P.Jagannath highlighted that the present generation must bring glory India as envisioned by the great leaders.
Vidya Ratna P.T.S. Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sastri Nagar, celebrated its 26th Sports Day enthusiastically, coinciding with India’s 78th Independence Day. Dr. Sudhakar – President of the World Silambam Sports Association, Lokesh Arunagiri and M.P.Kalidoss – Founders of Karlos Sports Science and Physical Therapy, graced the event.
The guests hoisted the National and school flags, followed by honouring international and national yoga competition winners. The celebrations featured a vibrant ribbon dance, innovative games, and an impressive pyramid, yoga and silambam display by students. Parents were thrilled to watch the parachuting event and see their children honoured and the day concluded with inspiring speeches from the chief guests, adding significance to the occasion.
Dream India team celebrated Independence Day in style with students and homes.
More than 3500 schoolchildren of Dream India supported government schools at Kaatumalayanur, Pums Aranji and Mazhaiyur (Thiruvannamalai district), Collector’s Colony (Arumbakkam), Perianatham, Vaiyavoor and Karai (Kanchipuram), A.K.T. Memorial High School (Kallakurichi), ADW Virugambakkam, and Bagaveli (Vellore) and other homes enjoyed special snacks as part of Independence Day celebrations.
Dream India along with Vasantham Home organised the 7th edition of science exhibition for the special children of Vasantham from Aug.12 to 15. More than 135 schoolchildren came up with wonderful posters, experiments and exhibits that garnered more than 1000 visitors. The children were awarded special prizes and certificates as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
Kidzee Valmiki Nagar celebrated Independence Day with ACP Bharath (Neelankarai) as the chief guest. At Kidzee Kannappa Nagar, Inspector of Women’s Wing (Adyar) Sridevi, was the chief guest. She engaged parents in an interactive session on child safety, sharing valuable insights and practical advice on protecting children in today’s world. The celebrations included a patriotic song, a march past, and a role play as patriotic leaders, speeches etc.
Prime Terrace Residents Association, LB Road, celebrated Independence Day with Narasimham hoisting the National Flag. He emphasised the importance of equality, freedom from discrimination and the collective role of every Indian in achieving national goals.
Resident Aarathi Vijay, highlighted the significance of sustainable practices to promote a more eco-friendly lifestyle. The ceremony also featured beautiful songs by Aarthy, Renu and other women and super senior citizens, which added to the patriotic fervour. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the annual sports day, and a vote of thanks was given by Secretary Shubashini.
Sri Sankara Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur celebrated Independence Day with a vibrant celebration paying homage to the nation’s journey to freedom. The celebration began with the hoisting of the national flag by the chief guest, Padmini Ravichandran, Editor of Sudesi Tamil magazine and Singai Express.
In her rousing speech, she emphasized the significance of independence and the responsibility that comes with it. The program proceeded with a series of events that celebrated the spirit of India. The school choir presented a medley of patriotic songs and a mesmerising dance performance by the school’s dance troupe. Student achievers were also honoured on the occasion.
Dr.A.Amarnath – Deputy Registrar of NIEPMD, hoisted the National Flag in the presence of Dr.S.Karthikeyan, Director I/c and Associate Professor (Clinical Psychology) celebrating Independence Day. He also distributed prizes to the winners of the many competitions conducted as a run-up to the celebrations. Staff, persons with disabilities, parents and HRD students participated.
Kalakshetra Foundation organised a series of programmes as part of Independence Day celebrations, including the ‘Tiranga Rally’ by the Besant Theosophical Higher Secondary School. Students create awareness about the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign by walking towards the statue of Gandhiji at Lakshmipuram, Thiruvanmiyur and back. Shri Suresh Kumar Chikkala, Director, Kalakshetra Foundation led the rally.
Journalist Colony, Thiruvanmiyur, celebrated Independence Day enthusiastically with senior journalist P.Soundrajan hoisting the national flag and speaking about the history and future plans for the colony. Association President Babuji Pandiyan, Secretary Parteepan, Treasurer Ashok Kumar, Joint Secretary Sinduja, ex-secretary K.Gunasekar participated.
