The Adyar Library and Research Centre, on Apr.13, received the ‘Vidya Bharathi Puraskar’ for ‘its rich contribution to Indian culture and heritage’. The award, instituted by the Sri Vidyatheertha Foundation (SVF), was given to the library during the 3rd edition of the ‘Shankara Vijayam’ festival held at Ananthapadmanabhaswamy temple, from Apr.7 to 13. Dr. Radha Raghunathan, Director, ALRC, received the award and citation on behalf of the institution.

The Adyar Library and Research Centre (ALRC) is a private library and research centre belonging to Theosophical Society (TS), Adyar. ALRC was founded in 1886 by Col. Olcott with his personal collection of books and manuscripts on Indological and oriental subjects. During these 138 years, the centre has added immensely to its repository of books and manuscripts. Additionally, the centre has consistently and exclusively strived towards the dissemination and dispensation of Indian knowledge through its research and publications.
