ALERTATHON 2022 – a global endurance event to create awareness

The 8th edition of the ALERTATHON 2022, the world’s only endurance event to save lives, was held on Oct.9, in collaboration with the Greater Chennai Traffic Police (GCTP) and the Greater Chennai Police. The event was organised by ALERT, a voluntary non-profit organisation that works to ensure the ‘Right to life’. 

V.M.Muralidharan, Chairman ALERT, flagged off the 50K and 25K cycling events at Dr.MGR Janaki Arts and Science College for Women in Adyar. Harsh Singh, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) North, was the chief guest of the event and he signed the pledge and gave away the awards to the winners.

Dr.Iyappan, Medical Director, Kauvery Hospitals, flagged off the 10K, 5K, and 2.5K x 4 Chain of Survival team relay. The top finishers were felicitated in the presence of guests of honour, Harsh Singh IPS and Rtn. Dr.Nandakumar, District Governor, Rotary District 3232. The Cyclothon started from Dr MGR Janaki Arts and Science College for Women and went up to Muttukadu in ECR and ended back at the Dr MGR Janaki and Science college for women. Over 100 volunteers and Alert Voice ambassadors supported the Walk, Run, and Ride.

Kapil Kumar Saratkar, IPS, Addl. Commissioner of Police (Traffic), congratulated ALERT for their efforts. ALERT’s team: Mike Muralidharan – Chairman, Kala Balasundaram – Founder and Rajesh.R.Trivedi – Co-Founder and Managing Trustee attended the event, among others.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
