Annual day at Tapasya Kalashala

Tapasya Kalashala celebrated its 2nd Annual Day on Aug.24, at RK Swamy Hall in Mylapore. Founded by Swathi M.Kumar, Tapasya Kalashala is a centre dedicated to Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music education, based in Besant Nagar. The event commenced with a Carnatic music performance by the students, followed by a Bharatanatyam recital.

The dance recital featured a live orchestra, marking the debut of all orchestra members. Mentors Subshri Mani and Jyotsna Narayan were the chief guests of the event. The Carnatic music recital began with a song dedicated to Lord Ganesha, followed by compositions by Kalaimamani D.K.Pattamal, saint Narayanateertar, a Thiruppugazh and a Thiruppavai. The recital concluded with the popular song ‘Jayathi Jayathi Bharata Mata’.

The Bharatanatyam performance began with an Allarippu, followed by Thiruppavai, Jathiswaram, and Shabdam. This was succeeded by a bhajan, ‘Deena Karunakarane Nataraja’, along with a Virutham. The youngest students of Tapasya performed on ‘Madu Meikkum Kanne’, and the program concluded with a Mangalam.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
