Bringing Irulas out of danger

Rotary Club of Chennai Thiruvanmiyur (RCCT) assisted needy people of the Irular tribal community in Chinna Edaiyathur, by providing tarpaulin to shelter their huts.

“People are struggling to have basic safety as the monsoon season approaches. The community mostly consists of daily wage workers, they find themselves, especially women and children, trapped in an unrelenting cycle of inadequate and no safety housing. During the rainy season, their huts have been severely compromised leaving them vulnerable to danger and lack of safety and shelter. The heavy rains transform their already damaged small shelters into damp and uncomfortable, living spaces, worsening their already challenging lives,” explained the RCCT team. They assisted 32 families.
