As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance access to quality education, the Greater Chennai Corporation has introduced four new school buses valued at ₹1.11 crore for the benefit of students studying in Chennai Schools.
The Corporation’s schools offer diverse programs, including skill-based training, self-defence, traditional arts, and various sports, alongside enhanced infrastructure and basic facilities to boost enrollment. Financial incentives are also provided to high-achieving students and those pursuing higher education from Corporation schools.
In the current academic year, 21,734 new students have enrolled from LKG to Class 12 in the Corporation-run schools. To further support student mobility and safety, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin recently inaugurated four new school buses, procured at a cost of ₹1.11 crore. Each bus is staffed with a dedicated driver and security guard, ensuring secure commutes.
These new buses will benefit 373 students daily from various schools, including those from Tondiarpet (23 students), Buddha Street Girls School (44 students), New and Old Nappalayam (70 students), Kulakkarai Primary School (16 students), Andarkuppam (80 students) and Kamarajar Avenue (40 students), and Injambakkam (100 students).
The buses will also be used for educational tours and to transport students to sports and cultural events, greatly enriching their learning experience beyond the classroom
