Chess Tournament held at KCG College of Technology

The 2nd Edition of the Dr. K.C.G. Verghese Memorial International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament 2024, was held from May 1 to 5 at KCG College of Technology, Karapakkam for a prize pool of Rs.3,00,000.

This prestigious nine-round tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from 533 players from 11 states across India, as well as international players from the USA and Australia.

The tournament was inaugurated by K.R.Seshadri, International Arbiter, on May 1. A distinguished panel of top judges presided over each day of the competition. Guests included chess luminaries such as International Master Shrihari, Grandmaster RR Laxman, International Master Ilamparthi, FIDE Trainer S.C.Subramanian, International Master Pon Kritika, Bhuvana Secretary CDCA, and International Master Praveen Kumar.

The champions from various categories were felicitated at the Valedictory Ceremony held on May 5, as chief guest Grand Master Vishnu Prasanna and Dr.Annie Jacob, Director, KCG Tech jointly awarded prizes to the winners.

R.Sham  from Tamilnadu scored 8.5 points and won the winner Trophy and received Rs.40000 cash prize. J.Saravanan from Chennai scored 8 points and finished as runner-up and received a cash prize of Rs.30000 and a trophy.

Vijay Shreeram and Dinesh Rajan scored 7.5 points each and on tie-break, Vijay Shreeram got third prize and got richer by Rs.20000. Dinesh Rajan finished fourth place and got Rs.15000 cash prize.
