The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, on Sept.20 inaugurated a significant water supply project and a new mobile application to address public grievances.
At a cost of ₹66.78 crore, the project will provide an additional 265 million litres of drinking water per day to Chennai from the Chembarambakkam Water Treatment Plant. This new pipeline, part of the second phase of the Krishna Water Supply Project, will bring the plant’s total capacity to 530 million litres per day. This initiative will benefit over 20 lakh people in the Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alandur, and Adyar zones, as well as parts of Tambaram, Kundrathur, and Sriperumbudur.
The Chief Minister also launched the ‘Chennai Water App’, a new mobile application developed by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) to quickly resolve public complaints. The app, available on both Android and iOS, features a photo-based registration system. Complaints are automatically integrated with a GIS and sent to the concerned assistant engineer via SMS and WhatsApp. Users will receive instant confirmation and can track the status of their complaints.
The app also allows complaints to be registered via website, email, the dedicated WhatsApp number 81449 30308, and social media platforms like Facebook and X.
