Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, on May 20, inaugurated five completed projects worth Rs 14.66 crores and laid the foundation stone for 20 new projects valued at Rs 255.60 crores under the Housing and Urban Development Department at the Secretariat.
The inaugurated projects, executed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on Chennai’s Outer Ring Road, include:
- Four modern fitness parks at Minjur, Vellanur, Varadarajapuram, and Thirunageswaram, built at a cost of Rs 11.46 crores. These parks feature open-air sports fields, children’s play areas, yoga platforms, green lawns, walking paths, high-mast lighting, and parking facilities.
- The Somusundaram Sports Ground in Thyagaraya Nagar, upgraded at a cost of Rs 3.20 crores, now boasts improved facilities for cricket, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and table tennis.
The CMDA is actively involved in strengthening Chennai’s metropolitan infrastructure to meet future demands of its growing population, implementing urban development policies, and executing comprehensive master plans and detailed development schemes.
Among the 20 new projects for which the foundation stone was laid, significant developments include:
- Upgradation of major MTC bus terminals at Ayyappanthangal (Rs 18.93 Cr), Thiruvanmiyur (Rs 28.25 Cr), Avadi (Rs 36.06 Cr), Padianallur (Rs 10.96 Cr), and Vallalar Nagar (Rs 9.99 Cr).
- Modernization of libraries in Ashok Nagar (Rs 12.74 Cr), Mahakavi Bharathiyar Nagar (Rs 7.18 Cr), Indira Nagar (Rs 4.26 Cr), Raja Annamalaipuram (Rs 3.49 Cr), and Bharathidasan Road in Alwarpet (Rs 12.55 Cr).
- Development of co-working spaces within libraries in Anna Nagar (Rs 15.50 Cr) and Gandhi Nagar (Rs 24.69 Cr).
- Construction of a community hall at Harrington Road, Egmore (Rs 13.72 Cr), and multi-purpose centers at Luz Church Road, Mylapore (Rs 8.25 Cr), and Adambakkam (Rs 9.91 Cr).
- Upgradation of Chetpet Eco Park (Rs 20.17 Cr) and development of a water-harvesting park in Sithalapakkam (Rs 3.63 Cr).
- Improvements to temple ponds in Kovur (Rs 4.98 Cr) and the Putheri Lake in Nemilichery (Rs 6.63 Cr).
- Establishment of a cold storage facility at the Koyambedu wholesale market complex (Rs 3.71 Cr).
