CMRL to Fully Transition to National Common Mobility Card by August 1
Share on WhatsappShare on Facebook

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has announced a complete switch to the Singara Chennai Card – National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), effective August 1, 2025. From this date, further top-ups for existing CMRL Travel Cards (Contactless Smart Cards) will be discontinued across all 41 metro stations.

The Singara Chennai NCMC was initially introduced on April 14, 2023, as a supplement to the existing travel cards. While passengers can continue to use the remaining value on their old CMRL Travel Cards until it is exhausted, a seamless transition process is in place. Once a card’s residual value falls below ₹50, passengers can surrender it at any CMRL ticketing counter to receive a Singara Chennai NCMC as a free replacement, with their original deposit and remaining balance transferred to the new card.
