As part of the National Intellectual Property Festival (Rashtriya Boudhik Sampada Mahotsav) 2025, CSIR-SERC and CSIR Madras Complex organised an awareness programme under the JIGYASA 2.0 initiative on Apr.17. The event aimed to educate school students on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and its role in fostering innovation and creativity.

S.Udhaya Shanker – Deputy Controller of Patents & Designs (Indian Patent Office, Chennai), delivered the keynote address, explaining the significance of IP, the difference between innovation and invention, and the importance of protecting intellectual property. Around 100 students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, CLRI, and IIT Chennai enthusiastically participated.

Dr. N. Anandavalli, Director, CSIR-SERC, welcomed the students and highlighted the different types of intellectual property—patents, copyrights, and trademarks. Dr. S. Sundar Kumar and Dr. S. Maheswaran also addressed the gathering.

The students explored the CSIR-SERC campus through guided tours of the Advanced Seismic Testing & Research Laboratory, Wind Engineering Lab, and Fatigue and Fracture Lab. Hands-on experiments and an interactive Q&A session with the chief guest enhanced their learning. A feedback session concluded the event, with students sharing their appreciation for the enriching experience.
