CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (CSIR-SERC), Chennai, and CSIR Madras Complex (CMC) celebrated National Technology Day on May 27 at the CSIR Campus, Taramani. The event was presided over by Dr. N. Anandavalli, Director, CSIR-SERC and Coordinating Director, CMC, who highlighted this year’s theme ‘YANTRA’ (Yugantar for Advancing New Technology, Research & Acceleration). She emphasised India’s evolution from a technology adopter to an innovation leader.
Chief guests included A.R. Santosh Kumar, DGM, IOCL R&D Centre, and Dr. G. Raghava, Former Chief Scientist, CSIR-SERC and Professor at NMIT Bengaluru. Kumar delivered the CSIR-SERC Diamond Jubilee Lecture on ‘Integrity Management of Pipeline Corrosion’, discussing corrosion behaviour, defect assessments, and the role of intelligent pigging and alternate fuels like hydrogen.
Dr. G. Raghava presented a lecture on ‘Antarctica – A Glimpse of the Icy Continent’, covering India’s Antarctic expeditions, scientific research significance, and opportunities for CSIR-SERC in infrastructure development at Indian research stations using innovative construction technologies and materials.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. J. Prabakar, Chief Scientist, CSIR-SERC.
