Drainage issues in Kottivakkam

Residents of the Allied Elegant Enclave apartments, located on Swaminathan Nagar’s 3rd and 4th Main Roads in Kottivakkam, are facing a series of pressing issues related to our drainage system that have become a daily concern for our community, particularly on the 4th Main Road.

1. Choking Open Drains: The open drain along the 4th Main Road is severely blocked, leading to frequent overflow of sewage into the car parking areas of Blocks E, F, G and H. This has unfortunately become a daily occurrence, creating an unsanitary environment.

2. Flooding from Rain: Even a light rain fills the drains, causing both sewage and rainwater to overflow into our parking area, which damages vehicles and poses a health risk.

3. Blocked Drainage: The drain at the end of the road is blocked, preventing the free flow of water. We urgently need the corporation authorities to  implement regular desilting to prevent future health hazards.

4. Metro Water Pipe Damage: During recent road work for new drain connections, the metro water pipeline near the E block car parking was broken, causing flooding in the area. Despite several complaints, no action has been taken by officials.

5. Elevated Road Level: Over the years, the road level has been raised significantly, sloping towards our side. This means that during the rains, water flows directly into our parking area as the drains become blocked. We request the civic authorities to ensure proper drainage of rainwater to mitigate this issue.

We believe these solutions will greatly improve our living conditions and we look forward to your support. We appreciate any immediate steps you can take to address these pressing issues and find a long-term solution for the health and safety of our community.
