Egmore redevelopment work: Southern Railway temporarily shifts train terminals to Tambaram and Chennai Beach

In light of the major redevelopment works underway at Chennai Egmore Railway Station, Southern Railway has, on June 13, announced a temporary shift in the originating/terminating terminals of several key trains to Tambaram and Chennai Beach stations. This operational change will be effective from June 20, 2025, to August 18, 2025, impacting commuters traveling across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.

    New Terminal: Tambaram
    Ex. Tambaram: from 20.06.2025 to 19.08.2025
    Ex. Guruvayur: from 18.06.2025 to 18.08.2025
    Departure: 10:47 hrs | Arrival: 19:45 hrs
  • Tambaram – Hyderabad Express (12759/12760)
    New Terminal: Chennai Beach
    Ex. Chennai Beach: from 20.06.2025 to 18.08.2025
    Ex. Hyderabad: from 19.06.2025 to 17.08.2025
    Departure: 18:20 hrs | Arrival: 07:15 hrs

Additional Service Changes at Egmore & Beach

Chennai Egmore – Puducherry MEMU (66051/66052):
From now till August 4, 2025:
Train 66051 will start from Chennai Beach at 06:25 and run via suburban route to Villupuram.
Train 66052 will terminate at Chennai Beach at 20:50 with additional halts at Chennai Park and Chennai Fort.

Egmore Stop Skipped on Select Days

Two major express trains will skip Chennai Egmore on specific dates, and instead halt at Chennai Beach:

  • Madurai – Bikaner Express (22631):
    No stoppage at Egmore on June 26, July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, August 7 & 14.
    Will stop at Chennai Beach (Arrival: 20:00 / Departure: 20:15).
  • Mannargudi – Jodhpur Express (22674):
    Will not stop at Egmore on June 23, 30; July 7, 14, 21, 28; August 4, 11, 18.
    Alternate stoppage at Chennai Beach (Arrival: 20:00 / Departure: 20:15).

Southern Railway urges passengers to check their train schedules and boarding stations before travel during this period. These temporary arrangements aim to ensure smooth progress of the Egmore station’s redevelopment, which is expected to significantly enhance passenger experience in the future.
